Kids rarely say "I can't see." Instead, vision problems show up as behavior, headaches or trouble at school. If any of these sound familiar, it's time for an exam.

A School Screening Isn't an Eye Exam
School and pediatrician screenings only check how well a child reads a chart across the room. They can miss farsightedness, astigmatism, a lazy eye, focusing problems and eye-teaming issues, all of which can make reading and homework harder.
A comprehensive exam with an optometrist looks at how both eyes work together up close and far away, and checks the health of the eye itself. Catching problems early, while the visual system is still developing, gives kids the best result.

Dr. Teresita Bollar is the owner and lead optometrist at Style Site Optical. A graduate of Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry, she has practiced across Miami-Dade since 2009 in clinics, hospitals and independent optical practices, and has evaluated thousands of patients, many of them children.

Pediatric Eye Care FAQs
When should my child have their first eye exam?
The American Optometric Association recommends a first exam in infancy, another around age 3, one before first grade, and then every year through the school years. If you notice any warning signs, come in sooner.
Isn't the school vision screening enough?
No. Screenings only check distance vision at a chart. They can miss farsightedness, astigmatism, lazy eye and focusing problems that affect reading. A comprehensive exam checks how the eyes work together and the health of the eye.
How much does a kids' eye exam cost?
A comprehensive kids' eye exam is $140 with Dr. Teresita Bollar. Most vision plans cover a child's annual exam, so your cost may be lower.
Do you take my child's insurance?
We accept VSP, EyeMed, Spectera, Davis, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Superior, March and more, plus Medicaid. Tell us your plan when you book and we'll check your benefits before the visit.
What if my child needs glasses?
Our opticians help your child pick a frame they like and fit it properly, with impact-resistant lenses for active kids. Adjustments and small repairs are free for life on frames bought here. If nearsightedness is getting worse each year, ask about Stellest myopia-control lenses.
Can we walk in, or do we need an appointment?
Walk-ins are welcome, but booking online guarantees your time with Dr. Bollar. We're open Monday to Friday 9 to 5 and Saturday 9 to 2.
