What retinal imaging can catch early
Many eye diseases have no symptoms at first. Imaging shows changes in the retina and optic nerve long before you'd notice them.
Glaucoma
OCT measures the optic nerve fiber layer, one of the earliest places glaucoma shows up.
Diabetic retinopathy
Photos show leaking or damaged blood vessels in the retina, often before vision changes.
Macular degeneration
OCT reveals thinning and hidden fluid in the macula, the part of the eye you read with.
High blood pressure changes
The retina is the only place we can see blood vessels directly, and pressure changes show up there.
Retinal holes or tears
Weak spots and tears in the retina can be spotted and referred before they become a detachment.
Macular swelling
Fluid under the retina, common with diabetes, shows clearly on a cross-section scan.
HOW IT WORKS
Two views of your eye health
Retinal photos give us a wide, detailed picture of the surface of your retina, blood vessels and optic nerve. An OCT scan uses light to build a cross-section of the layers beneath, like an ultrasound for your eye. Together they give a far more complete picture than a standard exam alone, and they're saved so we can compare them at every visit.

What to expect
The imaging takes a few minutes and is part of your regular eye exam.
Get comfortable
Rest your chin and forehead on the camera while our team lines everything up.
Look at the light
Focus on a small target light inside the machine so the camera can align with your retina.
Quick capture
A brief flash, like a regular camera. Both eyes usually take just seconds.
Review together
The doctor pulls up your images and walks you through what they show.

Will my eyes be dilated?
Usually not. Our camera captures a wide, clear view of the retina without dilating drops in most cases. If the doctor needs a closer look, we'll explain why before using drops.
Is there an air puff test?
No. We check your eye pressure with a gentle method, without the puff of air.
Does it hurt?
Not at all. Nothing touches your eye; you'll just see a quick flash of light.
Can I drive after my exam?
Yes. Without dilating drops there's no blurry vision or light sensitivity afterward, so you can drive or go back to work.
How often should I have retinal imaging?
Most patients have it with their yearly eye exam, so we can compare images from year to year. People with diabetes, glaucoma or a family history may need it more often.
Is retinal imaging included in the exam?
Yes. It's part of our $140 comprehensive eye exam, with no add-on fee at checkout.
Do you take my insurance?
We accept most vision and medical plans, including VSP, EyeMed, Davis Vision, Spectera, Aetna, Cigna, Oscar, Humana and Florida Medicaid. Bring your card or call with your plan details and we'll check your benefits before you come in. See the full insurance list.

Monday to Friday 9 am–5 pm and Saturday 9 am–2 pm. Closed Sunday.
